Shuttered Heart

Doom not the heart to tears of mourning,

Withdrawal of love may oft engender.

For lack of words, the voice goes still,

Sting of loss entwines as spirit doth meander.

Once strength of love betrayed the past,

            Overcoming pain and sorrow.

Injured hearts reaching out, love to mend their wounds,

            Each seeking a new tomorrow.

But one yet stands, lost midst emotions,

Fears of spirit bind to wasteland of confusion.

Yet wanders young soul, searching for a reason

Thoughts a sea, mind deep in illusion.

Does love know the way, a light within the darkness,

Can any truly say, in life is no conflict?

For what be the battle, if not for a heart’s desire,

To free one’s spirit, tragic memories to evict.

Let hearts not be sealed, with shutters of despair,

Throw open the gates of regret, unbind chains of woe,

Prepare the heart for renewal,

That love you may ever know.

Betrayal

You said you do when actually you don’t!

You said, “Yes, I will!”, but you didn’t!

You promised you would, then you wouldn’t!

You swore you could, yet just couldn’t!

Were these half-truths to disarm?

Your confusion did naught but alarm.

I believed in your words,

Perhaps hoped would be better.

I thought you different,

But now see you as player.

Why such deception,

            Does serve your heart well?

Will games that you played

            Bring joy to your life,

To cleave another’s dreams,

By one cut of the knife?

Were the words you spoke,

            In truth mere ploy,

That in the fiction you live,

            I acted your toy?

I remain your friend,

            Please treat me as such.

Treasure what I offer,

But not make me your crutch.

Open your heart and mind

True love may be easy to find.

How Do I Know?

A person did wonder, answers oft sought,

“Is it love I feel, or has lust cast its spell?

How do I know my feelings be true?

No guide of life nor sage does foretell.”

From deep in spirit should arise plaintiff cry.

“Love is not gold, nor diamonds to own,

Cease all your drivel, abide now my words.

For love is a gift, greatest ever known.”

“Whilst beauty of flesh beguiles those too willing,

It is never to preserve hearts so eager.

For time, its keeper, tariff of years must we pay,

Perhaps love’s purse is tragically meager?”

“Harken, my child that you may know,

Voice of ages imparts truth; oppose lie.

To see honest beauty your heart so desires,

Look to the blossom with a blind man’s eye.”

“Be not swayed by false promises,

Nor surrender to sweet words,

But borrow from the deaf, listen with your spirit,

To the sonata of flowers and songs of Hummingbirds.”

“For love is not tangible, negotiable nor bought,

Not fleeting nor ever meant to free.

Love is a commitment, not easily sustained,

Bonding like spirits by their heart’s decree.”

“Forsake false desires,

Fleeting beauty does portray,

Seek the truth within,

That your love will never betray.”

Reconcile

Woe the soul, its spirit worn

Wounds of guilt betray the heart,

Ne’er release to love anew,

Chains of fault keep lovers apart.

What end may come,

 If restate what was,

Will thrice spent mortar,

Build stout wall of cause?

History need never deny,

Brash choices made in haste,

Let future hold none but truth

For harmony of souls, love again be chaste.

Face facts of blame, cleanse the spirit,

Seize the hour to own the day,

Accept your pain, grief, and despair,

For want of flesh, you did betray.

For love the goal,

No price too steep,

An abundance awaits,

True souls to reap.

The Storm

Hear, o’ my heart, night’s calm soon to shatter,

Is rhythmic throb warning, for one who’s path did falter?

Will resonance of thunder soon ensue,

To destroy harmony once known with you?

Could I, wretched creature though I be,

Truly fathom your desire for one such me?

Your rage of tears, on storm filled eve,

No rain for crops, yet flooded fields I perceive.

Will frozen spirit, ice tears create,

To fall like daggers, on this ingrate?

Bring wrath upon soul now broken,

Winds of fury be not false token.

How I long for loving kiss,

Which I, however, faulted, do greatly miss.

That blaze of light, to illume my world.

Be blessed once more, your tears impearled.

Whence calm be known, our hearts to rest,

Swathed in love, our spirits caressed,

That on the morrow, with rising sun,

Once again our souls united as one.

Love is Here

Love, LOVE I shout from highest peak,

Forthright truth be what I seek.

For humble creature though I may be,

Love’s longing is no stranger to me.

To feel warmth of someone’s smile,

True blessing felt do senses beguile.

Upon light breeze, so gently borne.

The scent of you, foul stench suborn

Touch of a hand, so gentle to qualm,

Fears of denial, rejection to calm.

Your lips soothing upon my cheek,

My limbs forsake, my fears now meek.

Within my arms, you place your faith,

Overcome all doubt, cast out vile wraith.

Love, LOVE I cry, in voice so clear,

Love at last, has drawn me near.

The Man That Is Deke

He took a stand, defying old pain,

Facing vile assailant, his honor to gain.

Though small in stature, a contemporary David,

He stood his ground, ill fate he cheated.

With strength of will, forgetting the past,

Determination his armor, that this be the last.

He beset his Goliath, not with sling or stones,

But with cunning and speed, did offend with knee bones.

With cry of delight, his missiles well placed,

Once evil intentions were rapidly outpaced.

Laying fears aside, with help of dear friend,

Process began, bringing evil to its end.

Exposing his accoster, those to end sport.

Brought ease to memory, and joy to the court.

Were I to Declare

Were I to declare undying love for you

Would you eagerly respond in kind?

If I should say, I need your love,

Will you readily promise it mine?

Did angel kiss caress your heart;

Attack to soften hardened spirit?

What once was wall impenetrable barrier,

For love, you threw down the gauntlet.

To challenge emotions, your very soul to conquer,

You chose love first, exposing defective armor.

You threw open gates, unsealed myriad doors,

Your essence unleashed, passion now emancipator.

Abide now this day, your freedom attained,

False spirits fell before you, caustic chains now broken.

From this time forth, let love be your manna,

Your affections now gift, never scant token.

Dedicated to Deke

Love You

Beside me, lost in a world I may not enter, you sleep.

Your countenance tranquil, gentle the face dearest to me.

What wonders to amaze, do your dreams reveal, in languor so deep?

Will you remember, will you share, provide me the key?

As I lay here, loving you is so easy, a blessing in my time.

Had I once thought my heart to capture, a love so pure as yours?

Would that I, once lost soul, be granted the treasure of making you mine?

If this be my dream, may I never wake to write memoirs.

You Found Me Worthy

Close beside me, you lay, adrift in dreams,

Your visage serene, faint smile does reveal,

Tranquility befitting, love empowered,

To worship our union, shall be no appeal.

You arose like the sun, gift from the stars,

Soft glowing ember conquering my darkness,

Igniting my passion sorely feared too idle,

Soon ablaze, very being aflame, life now a wholeness.

What sovereignty of feeling, did assail my soul

That one such as you would deem me fitting

To share your world, to know your love,

Eternal blessing, my heart forever binding.
